Tim H. Cox joined Lafayette College in September 2019 as the Associate Dean of Advising and Co-Curricular Programs (Senior Class Dean) and transitioned to the Dean of Advising and Co-Curricular Programs in 2022.
Dr. Cox has over a decade of experience in enrollment management, student affairs and academic advising, and previously served as the Associate Director of Advising, Outreach, and Assessment at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Prior to coming to UMBC, he held student affairs and admissions positions at Brookdale Community College and Hudson County Community College respectively.
Dr. Cox has two master’s degrees: one in higher education administration from Baruch College, City University of New York and the other in academic advising from Kansas State University through the National Academic Advising Association. He earned his doctorate with concentrations in higher education and academic advising at George Mason University. His dissertation focused on how undergraduate academic advisors construct, negotiate, and navigate their identities in the advising relationship.
Dr. Cox is most passionate about helping students achieve their academic, professional and personal goals and is interested in researching the complex relational aspect of academic advising and its impact on student retention and persistence.
Dr. Cox is a Newark, NJ native, proud UNC Tar Heel, and a self-proclaimed foodie.
