What does being a first-gen student mean to you?

Being a first generation student, I am met with endless opportunities to grow and cultivate my understanding of the world around me that my parents didn’t have. By building relationships, having meaningful discussions, and working towards forging a path for other first generation

students like me, I have learned to be a more conscious citizen that is aware of the implications they have. I am able to advocate for the principles I am passionate about and enact necessary change in my community.

Why are you excited to be a first-gen mentor?

I am excited to serve as a mentor for students who have encountered the same obstacles as me and overcame them. I want to get to know them better and pass down my knowledge. As an individual who has had many impactful mentors throughout their life, it’s exciting to be able to be there for other students and help them to the best of my ability.
